What is a good guide for choosing carpeting?

Choosing carpeting can be a lot of work. There is so much to carpeting these days. There are many samples in a carpet store, fibers to consider, and the colors and patterns of those fibers. Never fear, Wards Discount Carpet is here to help you find the right carpet for your home. Let’s make this easy.

Requirements

So the first thing to consider is your requirements for the carpet. What do you want it to do for you? Here are a series of questions to help you: What room will it be in? Is it high-foot traffic or low-foot traffic room, small or large, or exposed to daylight? Is it in the dark? What do you use the space for? Do you need extra durability in the carpet? What about stain resistance? Finally, How big is your budget? What can you afford?

Research your carpet

This is where you look into the carpet itself. First, find out about the five primary fibers used in the market: nylon, polyester, wool, triexta, and olefin. Then research the fibers themselves. What are their strengths and weaknesses? Look at synthetic vs. natural fibers. Your choice will come down to which fibers you like the best. Then you want to look at the construction styles of the manufacturers: Berber, Saxony, high pile, low pile, cut pile, cut and looped, looped, frieze, and others.

Quality of the carpet

Here you look at the quality of the carpet. First, check the density, which is how closely the fibers are tufted. The density value for your home should be 3000. Check this yourself by looking at the sample card and bending it back. If you see a lot of white space, ask the staff about why that is. Another determinant of quality is the twist number. This ranges from 1 to 5. The higher the number, the less chance that the carpet will unravel. This number should be between 3 and 5.
